biography

bart eeckhout Bart Eeckhout is one of the founding members and original researchers of GUST; since 2002 he has been co-director of the team. He holds an M.A. in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University (1991) and a Ph.D. in American Literature from Ghent University (1998). He taught at Ghent University (1989-2005), Fordham University (Fulbright Visiting Lecturer, Fall 2001), and the Catholic University of Brussels (2002-2004), before moving on to the University of Antwerp in the Fall of 2005. In Antwerp, he is associate professor of English and American Literature as well as director of the interuniversity M.A. in American Studies. His books include Wallace Stevens and the Limits of Reading and Writing (University of Missouri Press), City Life (an anthology of international urban short stories, in Dutch), The Urban Condition (as principal co-author and co-editor at GUST), Literature and Society (co-edited with Bart Keunen for Peter Lang), and Post Ex Sub Dis (as principal co-editor at GUST). He has also guest-edited two special issues of The Wallace Stevens Journal (Fall 2001 & Spring 2006) and co-organized an international conference on Stevens at the Rothermere American Institute in Oxford, U.K. (2005).
